Some lines about this work:
Yuri Shibnev presented me his book “Stalking the Spotted Panther”, that I used for inspiration and as material for this collage. His pictures are very different from most others, because he managed to get pictures from this and other very rare animals in the wild. Most others had to give up and turn to take pictures of animals in captivity. However his life and as well this work are dedicated to beauty and the fight against destruction of this beauty.
His photograph, (that I used) shows two Amur Leopards. In 2012, when I visited Shibnev, there were about 30-40 Leopards estimated to be still living in the wild. (2017, there were estimated to be 90). However I choose the Amur Leopard because it is an Indicator species*. If you are interested in understanding more about the role and life of this beautiful cat you can read more here:
*An indicator species is an organism whose presence, absence or abundance reflects a specific environmental condition. Indicator species can signal a change in the biological condition of a particular ecosystem, and thus may be used as a proxy to diagnose the health of an ecosystem. (Wikipedia)
